Crispy Pan Pizza

I made gyoza a few days ago and had some left over gyoza wrappers from that day. My Japanese friend suggested making a pan pizza using those. I am not a big fan of crusty (thick) pizza bases and always prefer the thing crispy ones. It seemed like a great idea and we tried making some and it turned out to be great. Thin, crispy and delicious. Using gyoza wrappers is a good alternative to pizza bases I guess. I have used tortilla bases once but this one was better. Here is the recipe.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10-15 minutes
Serves: 1-2

Ingredients:
  • Vegetables (thinly sliced) of your choice. I used
    • Onions
    • Tomatoes
    • Capsicum
    • Orange and Yellow Bell peppers
    • Parsley
  • Mozzarella Cheese for topping (and a thin layer before putting on the cut veggies)
  • Gyoza wrappers - 15-20
  • Pizza sauce or Ketchup. I did not have pizza sauce so I used Ketchup and it was good enough : 3 tbsp
  • Mustard sauce. - 2+1 tbsp (1 for topping)
  • Tomato Ketchup: 2 tbsp (for topping)
  • Sausages - 4-5
  • Olive oil: 1/2 tbsp

Directions:
  • Heat the olive oil in a flat pan (I used a dosa pan) over medium heat and put off the flame.
  • Lay the gyoza wrappers on the pan each slightly overlapping the other. Continue to do so forming layers and making sure the base of the pan is fully covered, till you have used up all the wrappers.

  • Add the pizza sauce and 2 tbsp of mustard sauce and spread it all over the wrappers with a spoon.

  • Spread some cheese over it.

  • Add the vegetables and sausages. Heat the sausages in a microwave for a minute so that they are properly cooked.  Add some more cheese.

  • Put the lid over the pan. Turn on the flame and keep it over low flame (heat) for about 10-15 minutes till the cheese melts properly and the pizza is evenly baked.

  • Your pizza is now ready. Add some ketchup and mustard sauce over it and serve hot.

Note:

  • Using sausages is optional. You can always omit the sausages to make a vegetarian version of this.
  • You can use your choice and quantity of vegetables and that is the reason I have not mentioned the quantity as such. It is totally flexible.
